A Growing City Needs Light Rail

Every city needs adequate public transport. Making public transport a better travel choice not only benefits those who use it, but also road users as pressure on our roads is reduced. The Hobart northern suburbs rail service will have a number of unique benefits that will make traveling around our capital city easier for everyone.

FAST AND SUSTAINABLE

Our proposal features modern electric rail vehicles traveling between the Hobart waterfront and Brighton. In peak times, up to 5 trains operate at 12 minute intervals, with travel time of 28 minutes between Brighton and Hobart.

REDUCED GRIDLOCK

Providing a better public transport choice for northern suburbs residents will benefit all of Hobart. By removing traffic from our congested CBD and arterial roads at key times of the day, people who need to drive to work can expect a faster, less stressful commute.

INTEGRATED TRANSPORT

Park and ride facilities will be available at all suburban stations, while Mawson Place station will act as a transfer point for eastern shore ferry services. All trains will allow for easy wheelchair and pram access, making the service easily accessible for all users.

ECONOMIC GROWTH

This project will go further than providing jobs in construction and operation. Light rail projects are catalysts for economic growth, with raised land values encouraging investment, and additional customers for small business along the Hobart rail corridor.
